No arrests have been made.

An RSPCA spokesman said investigations into the allegations are ongoing.

The spokesman said: “RSPCA and police visited a location in Great Harwood last week following welfare concerns for horses.

"This is an ongoing investigation and therefore we are unable to give any more information at this time.

“We take all reports of cruelty and neglect seriously and if anyone has any information about animal suffering they can call us on 0300 1234 999.”

A police spokesman added: “We attended a scrapyard with RSPCA inspectors in Meadow Street, Great Harwood, on February 23.
