A 29-YEAR-OLD man who went on a “bender” days after being told his father had cancer outstayed his welcome at a Langho pub.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Ian George Batey was refused further alcohol and responded by throwing a stool over the bar, breaking glasses and fittings.

And his actions landed him in custody after the magistrates revoked his bail which had been granted previously on a cannabis production charge which is due before the Crown Court.

Batey, 29, of Dill Hall Lane, Church, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at the Petre Arms and breach of bail.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months for the criminal damage but remanded in custody until his appearance at the Crown Court.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said a condition of Batey’s Crown Court bail was a 9pm curfew.

“This offence was committed at 9.15pm so he was committing the latest offence at a time when he should have been at home,” said Miss Allan.

Aftab Bakhat, defending, said: “He has to pay compensation and he accepts he shouldn’t have done what he did but there is an explanation.”
