A TEENAGER almost ‘eaten alive’ by two dogs has told friends how he ‘though he was going to die’.

Daniel Boardman, 19, of Sands Road, Rishton, has been telling pals from his hospital bed that ‘he feels lucky to be alive’ after being savaged in his own home.

Today Daniel, a former pupil at St John’s Primary and The Hollins Technology College in Accrington, was undergoing plastic surgery at Royal Preston Hospital.

One of his childhood friends said he had been to visit Daniel and was told he faced three more sessions of plastic surgery and would spend the next month in hospital.

He said: “He was able to speak but would then start shaking.

"He’s covered in bandages on his legs and forearms and his arms are up in slings. He was glad to have someone to talk to.

“But he looked really bad and needs 24-hour care.

“Danny said the dogs just lost it and that he saw their eyes rolling back into their heads.

“He said that he was screaming for help, but it took the police 30 minutes to get in and taser the dogs.

“They kicked down the front door and dragged Danny out by his wrist. He is a real mess, but feels lucky to be alive.”

The friend, 19, from Hyndburn Road, Baxenden, said he had also looked after the dogs - Coco and Dekker who belong to a mutual friend Mark Rowland, 24 - and that they had always been friendly.

Daniel, who has recently been working at bakery Clayton Park, suffered ‘life-changing’ injuries including arm wounds down to his tendon and bone.

He was rescued by two armed officers on Monday morning, but it was more than 24 hours later the dogs were killed.

Today, Lancashire County Council’s specialist mobile cleaning team were at the address were the stand-off took place throughout Monday and Tuesday.

Their owner Mr Rowland said the animals were Bull Mastiffs, but police say they were ‘pitbull-type’ dogs. Investigations into their breed are ongoing.

Mr Rowland has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of possessing a banned dangerous dog.
