A RETAINED firefighter has been cleared of a string of child sex allegations.

Azar Khan, 40, was found not guilty of four charges of indecent assault, three of sexual assault on a child, three allegations of sexual activity with a child, three of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and two charges of oral rape, after a trial at Burnley Crown Court.

Khan, of Clifton Street, Accrington, had denied the allegations and had told police the two girls who making them were lying.

Khan was also acquitted of conspiring to pervert the course of justice, with his sister Ghazala Fareed and her husband Mohammed Fareed.

The couple, who had pleaded not guilty to the charge, were discharged from the dock by Judge Simon Newell.

Khan was suspended from his position as a retained fireman with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, at Great Harwood.
