CALLS are being made for school children from Accrington to get creative with cake to help honour the town’s heritage.

Catering students from Accrington and Rossendale College have made 200 edible versions of the Nori building blocks to construct the centrepiece for Accrington Food Festival.

Pupils are being encouraged to pipe their name using icing at the event to help create the cake model of an Anderson Shelter.

Children being asked to take a photo of their brick and post it to Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #AccyFoodFest.

The picture with the most likes will win a sweetie bouquet donated by Extreme Womens Designer Wear based on Water Street.

Nori bricks have been used all over the world and were used in the foundations for the Empire State Building.

All primary school children in Accrington have received a flyer inviting them to come along and take part.

The food festival will take place on Saturday from 10am until 3pm around the market hall.
