ACCRINGTON Stanley have been helping out a neighbour with an overhanging tree as part of work to make improvements to their ground.

The football club have been contacted by Angela and Les Allen, whose property backs onto the Wham Stadium, to raise an issue about a tree at the bottom of their garden.

The club offered to help, with contractors, Hyndburn Council leader Cllr Miles Parkinson and representatives of the club coming to cut it down.

Stanley managing director David Burgess said: “We’re always keen to support and work with local people.

“Good relations with our neighbours are important to us and we’re very keen that the club is a big part of the local community.

“As the facilities at the Wham Stadium continue to be revamped and developed we’re keen to continue being a community club and helping those around us.”

The football club had been carrying out work on creating a new Clayton End match day car park.

Cllr Parkinson said: “It’s fantastic news that residents and the football club are working together to carry out some absolutely wonderful work.

“It’s positive news for the club and people in the area.”
