A HEADTEACHER has spoken out after one of their pupils was nearly knocked down by a car.

Cath Kippax, who leads St Oswald’s RC Primary and Nursery School in Accrington, took to Facebook to warn parents and ask them to be aware of the dangers.

She said: “I sent letters out last week asking parents to be careful and considerate when using a car to bring their children to and from school.

“This week, a child was very nearly hit by another parent’s car reversing down Hartley Avenue.

“We have spoken to the police about this incident. They have advised us to ask parents to log down registration numbers of cars involved in dangerous manoeuvres and bring these details into school.

“Please also bring in details of cars parking dangerously or inconsiderately and cases where children are not being transported safely or overcrowding in cars.

“The school car park is for staff and visitor use only.

“The local PCSOs will be making spot checks over the next few weeks and issuing fixed penalty notices where the law is being broken.”

She has also called on parents to walk to school with their children if they can.

Mrs Kippax has issues tips to parents to keep children safe when driving including keeping their speed low and turning engines off.”
