TRAINS were delayed and roads have been sealed off in the centre of Accrington after reports a man was on the railway tracks.
The man was brought down safely from the tracks after police officers engaged with him.
At around 5.30pm police sealed off areas close to the town centre viaduct, the railway station and another bridge on Blackburn Road.
Two fire engines, one with an extendable ladder were at the scene along with several police officers.
At 6pm National Rail Enquiries were reporting delays for services travelling through the town.
An eyewitness, said: "I saw a man sitting close to the railway bridge, near the tracks.
"They have sealed off King Street and Blackburn Road as he appears to be moving around."
A polcie spokesman, said: "Several roads were sealed off and trains were stopped for a short period after reports of a man wandering on the tracks close to bridges in Accrington town centre.
"He has been brought down safely and is uninjured and officers have detained him under the Mental Health Act."
