A WELL-known Accrington town centre pub has reopened just weeks after concerns were raised over its future.

The Calder in Blackburn Road was forced to close its doors for a number of weeks after its parent company went into administration earlier this year.

According to the London Gazette, the government’s official public record, administrators were appointed for Parity Bars (Accrington) Limited on Tuesday, October 27.

The company had a registered office in Sheffield in South Yorkshire but its principal trading address was The Calder in Blackburn Road.

A sign was placed on the window of the bar recently stating that it has been closed for renovation, leading to speculation about its future, and now the Calder, which is very much part of the Accrington pub circuit, is back open for business.

A spokesman for the pub, writing on its Facebook page on Monday, said: “We are pleased to announce The Calder has now reopened and is under new management.”

The pub is also looking to take on new food and bar staff and is currently accepting applications.

The Calder was set up by The Baracuda Group in 2006 but ownership was transferred before the organisation, which was rebranded as the Bramwell Pub Company, entered administration in 2013.

Kelly Burton and Joanne Wright, both of Wilson Field Limited, which is based in Sheffield, were appointed as joint administrators for the pub’s former operators, according to the London Gazette.

Cllr June Harrison, who represents the area on Hyndburn Council, said: “This is brilliant news that it has now reopened.

“It’s great that it has been saved and is also open in the run-up to Christmas as well.

“It will create more jobs for local people and that means that they are planning for the long-term future.

“It’s a real boost for the area.

“A Lottery grant has been awarded to do up the buildings in Blackburn Road and people are becoming more interested in the area.

“People are also looking to go there more because of the new bus station as well.

“I hope that this all means that the pub is going to stay open in Blackburn Road for many years to come.”

The new management of the pub were unavailable for comment.
