THE headteacher of a Hyndburn school has written to parents to state his ‘confidence’ that it will be upgraded to ‘good’ by Ofsted by the end of 2017.
Xavier Bowers, who leads Mount Carmel RC High School in Accrington, said the recent judgement, which downgraded the school to ‘requires improvement’ was ‘a little harsh’.

He said: “We are delighted with our three ‘good’ Ofsted judgements and a largely positive Ofsted report.
“But we are equally concerned the outcomes section and the overall effectiveness judgement was we require improvement.
“While we feel these judgements are a little harsh, we have been busy revising and updating our school improvement plans, so we can be confident when Ofsted return in 12 to 24 months time we will be judged ‘good’ in all categories.
“I will write to you again in January with more details.”
