A CHRISTMAS fanatic who turned his home into a festive lights extravaganza is to feature in a Channel 4 documentary.

Fred Brome assisted by husband Mick, have decked out his two-bedroom detached home with luminous snowmen, Santas and even life-sized nativity figures.

The couple both 47, from Limewood Close in Accrington, elaborately decorate their home every year and so far this year have raised around £5,000 for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

And their Christmas preparations were filmed for Channel 4 documentary, ‘My Crazy Christmas Lights’ to be screened on Christmas Eve at 8pm.

They spent around two weeks putting up the spectacular display which has been seen by thousands of people so far this year following a grand lights switch-on on December 1.

Fred, who started decorating home as a bit of fun was encouraged to continue the tradition to raise money for charity.

He said: “Each year we try to change the display slightly.

“I think Christmas is the most amazing time of year - December and the build-up.

“It’s just a magnificent time.

“Although I’m 47 now I still find Christmas so magical.

“Some people think we’re a little bit crazy but we don’t see that.”

When Fred gets home from work each day he dons his Christmas Santa onesie to do a meet and greet with visitors and collect more donations.

The only draw back to the fun is the large electricity bill, he added.

Fred said: “The monthly bill is double my sister’s and her house is double the size of ours.

“We do use a lot more electricity than she uses.”

Other money has been raised through a series of fundraising events finishing with a charity auction featuring a Gary Barlow tribute act on January 8 at 7.30pm at The Poplar Club in Accrington with tickets costing £5.
