GREAT Harwood councillors have launched a campaign to oppose proposed parliamentary boundary changes.

Overton ward councillor Peter Clarke and Netherton ward councillor Lynn Wilson plan to collect signatures at an event to start a petition opposing the changes.

The changes, part of a bid to have fewer MPs nationally to cut costs, would see Great Harwood moved from Hyndburn constituency to Burnley South and Accrington.

Coun Clarke said: “Both Lynn and I have lived in the town for over 50 years and we know that the locals would rather be placed in the Ribble Valley.”

Councillors Clarke and Wilson will be on the Town Gate in Great Harwood on Friday from 10.30am collecting signatures.

The completed partition will be delivered to the Boundary Commission for England before the end of consultations on December 5.
