A CAMPAIGNER has taken his feud with Hyndburn Borough Council onto the streets.

Tony Hindley spent yesterday driving around the borough with a trailer bearing a banner criticising the council.

But his behaviour was dismissed by council officials as ‘ridiculous’.

Mr Hindley said he has been angered that no-one has been held accountable for mistakes that were made in the construction of a new coach house, in Oakhill Park, Accrington.

Council leader Peter Britcliffe called on Mr Hindley to name names so individuals could hit back.

He said: “The council has been cleared of wrong-doing by the police, local government ombudsman and the audit committee, but we still get this.

"He seems to be completely obsessed with this issue.

“There are a lot of people who are very upset that he is making allegations like this against the council and I call on him to either name names, or keep quiet.”

Mr Hindley, who is the former Friends of Oakhill Park boss, has campaigned for two years after work was completed at the storage facility.

Hyndburn Council admitted ‘honest mistakes’ were made in the tendering process for the work to repair fire damage after an incident in 2004.

Two tenders were received. The lowest tender was accepted by the council, but the higher quotation was used for the insurance claim.

Council bosses said this was a mistake and that the money had been paid back.

Pressure from Mr Hindley led to three investigations being launched, all of which cleared the council of any wrong-doing.

Mr Hindley said his protests would continue.

He said: “I’ve been everywhere in Hyndburn with the trailer and I will keep it up.

"People have been clapping and cheering.”
