A NEW anti-crime scheme will be advertised on the side of the borough's rubbish trucks.

Hyndburn's Community Safety Partnership are using the trucks to advertise the SafeNav campaign which reminds people not to leave valuables in their cars.

The partnership says there has been a steady increase in thefts from all types of vehicles because offenders are targeting high value items within, such as Sat Navs.

The campaign is urging drivers to remove any possessions from view before leaving their car.

Chair of the CSP Coun Brian Roberts said. "This is yet another good example of partnership working within the borough where the police have a message to get across and the council has the means to help reach the residents.

"We are all concerned when innocent members of the public become victims but we all have a part to play in crime reduction.

"The council is pleased to be able to support this innovative idea."
