AN eight-year-old boy battling cerebral palsy has had his festive plans upset by an epilepsy setback.

Finley Rosbotham, from Accrington, is being treated for epilepsy after he was rushed to hospital following a fall last Wednesday.

The news has provided a blow to the family’s Christmas plans, as they had arranged to go to Florida in January as part of their present.

However Finley, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three months old, is no longer able to fly.

Mother Kelly Rosbotham had arranged the trip with her husband for Finley, his twin sister Ellie, her two other children and her granddaughter.

However the 42-year-old has remained upbeat and praised Finley for his response to the setback.

Mrs Rosbotham, from Pearl Court, said: “He just got out of bed and fell on the floor. I’m not sure if Finley was more upset about the epilepsy or the holiday.

“It’s not something we ever thought would happen, we’ve gone eight years without it.

“They’re all big Disney geeks, so it was part of their Christmas present.

“But Finley’s health is the most important thing in all of this.

“He’s putting me to shame, I’m falling apart and he’s just taking it all in his stride.”

Finley is now having to go through a series of tests and scans from neurologists at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Mrs Rosbotham said she plans to make up for the cancelled trip with the family by buying them extra Christmas presents.

Teachers of Finley’s class at Peel Park Primary School in Accrington told pupils about his condition earlier this week.

Mrs Rosbotham said Finley handled it ‘very well’ and he held a question and answer session with fellow pupils about it.

He also apologised to his older siblings about the trip being cancelled.

Finley’s mum said: “He’s handled it so maturely. We’re just trying to keep it as normal as possible, but then there are moments where it hits us that it’s not a normal situation.

“We’ve learned that it’s best to just sit down and talk to him and to try and be as open as possible.

“We’re just going to see how it goes in the new year.”

Last month Finley and his twin sister Ellie both took part in a fancy dress fun run at school, which Finley described as his ‘biggest challenge yet’.

He also suffered a fall following the run.
