CAMPAIGNERS have said 'the fight will go on' after reaching 1,000 signatures against plans to build a sports hub on Higham's Playing Fields.
An online petition was set up earlier this year by Cllr Malcolm Pritchard against Accrington Stanley Community Trust proposals to build the £2million centre.
Last month he held a public meeting against the plans attended by almost 300 people, and now 1,033 people have signed the online form.
Cllr Pritchard, who represents the Milnshaw ward, said: "It's absolutely brilliant so many people have signed the petition.
"I've been getting support from disabled group who take their children their to play on the field.
"It shows people around Accrington and around Hyndburn don't want this to happen.
"I don't understand why they want to change it.
"The fight will go on."
Plans are for the hub are expected to be submitted to the council planning committee later this month.
