POLICE and paramedics have been called to Oswaldtwistle after a lorry crashed under a bridge and flipped on its side.

The incident has happened in Blackburn Road, West End, and officers have closed the road in both directions.

Police said the incident happened at around 4.40pm when the lorry crashed under the railway bridge and turned on its side.

No other vehicles were thought to be involved.

The driver of the Volvo Artic managed to get out of the vehicle unaided. They are not thought to be seriously injured.

A police spokesman said paramedics and traffic police are at the scene and Network Rail engineers have also been called.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to Blackburn Road in Oswaldtwistle at around 4.40pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a Volvo Artic.

"The lorry has gone under the railway bridge and has flipped on its side.

"The driver has managed to get out of the vehicle and is not thought to be seriously injured.

"The road has been closed in both directions whilst the man is treated by paramedics and the vehicle is recovered. Network Rail engineers have been called out to assess if there is any structural damage to the bridge."
