Next week a consultation event is set to be held where people can also learn about what has happened so far.

Draft proposals will be shown for the square, which could be between the Town Hall and Market Hall.

Members of the consultant design team and Hyndburn Council’s Townscape Heritage Team will be at hand to explain the proposed changes.

There will also be an opportunity during the final event on Saturday to join Accrington Camera Club members in a photography workshop.

Cllr Clare Cleary said: “These are momentous times for Accrington and we want as many people as possible to come along and have their say about proposals for the new town square.

“The Accrington Pals story will be incorporated into the design and all will be revealed in this consultation event.

“The final event on October 1 will also give people the chance to take part in a photography workshop with Accrington Camera Club, whose members are due a big thank you for all their help and support during this project.

“Residents wanted to have their say and they now have the opportunity.”

The plans are part of the Townscape Heritage Initiative which enlisted international architects, the IBI Group, to draw up proposals for the square.

The proposals will be on show at the Town Hall between noon and 4pm on Monday and Tuesday, noon and 7pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 10am to 4pm on Friday and Saturday.
