AN East Lancashire company has unveiled the outfit Team GB will wear when they celebrate their success at the Rio 2016 Olympics at the games’ closing ceremony.

Simon Jersey, based in Altham designed the shorts, jacket and custom-made red, white and blue illuminated shoes that the 366 British athletes will wear.

The jacket featuring the lions head will also include the words ‘thank you’ to Brazil in Portuguese and a ‘hello’ to Tokyo in Japanese, the host nation of the next Olympic Games in 2020.

Liz Murphy, of Simon Jersey, said: “We’ve been really pleased it’s been lovely to work with Team GB, it has put us on a global stage. “I believe the closing ceremony will be seen by over a billion people and the fact we’re quite a small business it is amazing.”

Designers from the company worked with the Athletes’ Commission, current and former athletes, to come up with the idea for the garments.

The company also created the formal wear which athletes have worn, such as when Andy Murray was named the flag holder for the Olympic team.
