A MOTORIST had to be cut free from a car in Accrington after crashing on a major road junction heading out of town.

Two crews from Hyndburn station were alerted just after 1.40pm on Sunday when two vehicles, thought to be a Ford Focus and Renault Clio, collided at the crossroads of Hyndburn Road and Dill Hall Lane.

One of the cars ended up on its side and firefighters deployed specialist cutting equipment to remove a female driver from the Clio.

She was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment after being assessed at the scene by paramedics.

However, the driver’s injuries are not thought to be serious.

Diversions were set up around the scene by Lancashire Police and the incident is said to have lasted around 45 minutes until the road was finally cleared.

Road traffic police are now expected to conduct an investigation into the exact cause of the collision.
