A BURGLAR who broke into a woman’s home late at night has been allowed his freedom after his confession effectively helped to convict himself.
Dylan Mawdsley, 19, took a TV worth around £400 from the property in Prospect Street, Great Harwood, before fleeing, Burnley Crown Court was told.

But with little evidence to charge him, it was only his “frank account” of the break-in which led to him being locked up, the court heard.
The defendant confessed he was under the influence of alcohol, Kimberley Obrusik, prosecuting, said. He told officers he had walked away with the TV and had later sold it on for £100.
Hannah Lynch, defending, said her client had been in custody since July.
Judge Paul Camp jailed him for five months, which would allow his immediate release.
Mawsdley, formerly of Burnley but now of Queen Street, Great Harwood, admitted burglary. He will remain under probation service supervision for another year.
