Hyndburn council pledges to treat elderly with dignity
10:01am Tuesday 4th December 2012 in Hyndburn
AN EAST Lancashire council has laid out plans to support a charity’s bid to ensure dignity for old folk.
Hyndburn Council is bringing in a new Pensioners Dignity Code in support of the campaign launched by the National Pensioners Convention.
The code, which is to be voted on by councillors this week, sets out minimum standards for treatment of older people in hospital and in the community.
Hyndburn is responding to the charity’s calls to support their campaign to end mistreatment, neglect and abuse.
The code sets out 19 points and complements Hyndburn’s existing equality policiies. It also calls for the use of formal terms of address, respect for older people’s privacy and for complaints to be dealt with promptly.
