A NEW robot will improve outcomes for patients with cancer, health bosses have said.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Regional Specialised Cancer Centre is the first hospital in the North of England to have the latest advanced

robotic surgical system.

It will treat patients from Lancashire and South Cumbria who have bowel, gastrointestinal, urological and gynaecological cancers. The centre is also just one of three in the country, and the only one in the North West, to be able to provide treatment for upper gastrointestinal cancer using this new robot.

The robot can bend and rotate 360 degrees, making it much easier for our surgeons to access parts of the body that are difficult to reach.”
