THE 40th annual Pleckgate High School awards night celebrated one of the best years in its history.

Headteacher of the Blackburn school Robin Campbell thanked staff and pupils for their hard work.

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Keith Andrews attended to hand out the awards.

Mr Campbell, said: “As ever it has been a busy and challenging year for the school.

“Just about a year ago we welcomed Ofsted through our doors who spent an intensive two days reviewing all aspects of Pleckgate.

"We were identified as a good school with several outstanding aspects.”

He added: “I started by saying that this evening is about celebrating a truly successful year for Pleckgate.

"It is also of course an opportunity to say well done to the young adults here tonight and to recognise your achievements.

“You deserve your awards be they sporting, attendance or academic because you have demonstrated commitment and you should have pride in your achievements and efforts.

"I hope you continue to enjoy more success in the future.

“We actually don’t need an Ofsted inspection to tell us that we are a good to outstanding school.

“We know we are because we have outstanding pupils, many of whom are here today and it is so because of our outstanding team of staff supported by governors, parents, community and local authority.

"Long may it continue.”
