THE achievements of girls at Westholme Middle School in Blackburn were celebrated at the prize-giving ceremony last night.

Former pupil and award-wInning businesswoman Tracy Wood presented the prizes to girls from each of the four school years who have enjoyed exceptional achievements in subject areas in the past year.

Born in the US and brought up in Lancashire, Tracy became the youngest partner to be appointed by professional services firm Ernst and Young.

Now 32 and head of tax, Tracy was named Young Professional of the Year at the North West Business Insider’s Young Professional Awards in 2004, and last year was invited to meet with the Queen at a reception to celebrate the achievements of women in business.

Before presenting the awards, she spoke of how she looked back on her school days with fondness and gratitude and encouraged the pupils to believe in themselves and strive for their own personal best.

Carol Laverick, head of the middle school, said: “We are really proud of all the girls and everything that they have accomplished this year. They are truly amazing and a credit to the school and their parents.”
