A FASHION student has been selected to have her work exhibited at the University of the Arts in London.

Blackburn College fashion and textiles student Karolina Rokita was selected from more than 450 people by professional curator Elliott Burns to have her work on display as part of the Origins exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch.

Karolina, who is originally from Poland, said: "It’s a brilliant opportunity. I wasn’t expecting it, as there are a lot of talented students at Blackburn College.”

Focusing on childrenswear her exhibit will be based on her final major project which used the word ‘tropical’ as a source of inspiration.

She said: "I then created a range of surface patterns under this theme, printed them onto fabrics and made a collection of children’s clothes, cushions and wallpaper.

"I’ve chosen to send the children’s clothes and cushions to the Origins exhibition.

"Going to London and exhibiting my work at Origins will be big opportunity for me to get exposure on a national scale.”

The 30-year-old sold a selection of her childrenswear at the Festival of Making and has set up a small business Oli & Mi which is being sold at Contrado and Not in the high street.

Danielle Longhi, course leader for fashion and textiles, said: "This is fantastic news for Karolina and she has worked incredibly hard – having already won Student of the Year for Fashion and Textiles."
