STUDENTS from an Accrington school have been honoured after clocking up more than 17million words in a reading challenge.

The 10 Accrington Academy youngsters each read more than one million words totalling 17,468,414 and a total of 336 books

Those who achieved 'millionaire' status, including Tyler Knight, Ethan Walker, Samuel Cristoforo, Alishba Shazad, Daisy Moreton, Joseph Stiling, Alishba Naheem, Musfirah Yasin, Neha Ali, Malayeka Mughal and Sara Shazad, were presented with the Principle’s award for reading at an afternoon tea.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “I am extremely proud at how much time and effort the students have put into their reading, both in school and at home. This is a great achievement for every one of our ‘millionnaires,’ which is also reflected in their English work.”
