Motocross problem back in Tockholes

DISTURBANCE Motocross problem back in Tockholes DISTURBANCE Motocross problem back in Tockholes

MOTOCROSS racing problems have “come back with a vengence” in Tockholes, according to a councillor who helped ban the sport on farmland seven years ago.

Councillor Jean Rigby said residents living near Shaws Farm, off Stockclough Lane, have had to endure six weeks of “unbearable” noise from the vehicles being ridden on farmland, and now the matter has been passed to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

In 2004, the council was successful in stopping then farm owner Peter Gombos, from allowing the land to be used as a motocross centre, because of nuissance to neighbours.

Coun Rigby said: “All of a sudden, it’s started up again and residents tell me that the noise is unbearable.

“Tockholes is in a valley and so the noise of the bikes sweeps across, with some days better than others.

“Tockholes is a very beautiful place and people have worked hard, and continue to work hard to buy houses here and maintain them. They are attracted by the quiet, rural nature of the area, and they deserve to be able to sit in the garden at weekends without this disturbance.

“It is being trashed by people who apparently don’t seem to give a monkeys.”

Brian Bailey, director of regeneration at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “We have received some complaints and are looking into them.”

The owners of Shaws Farm were unavailable for comment yesterday.

Here we go again !! You should ask the farmer next to the track about the noize , Its no problem to them , But the M65 is but none of the do gooders wanted to help them when they asked , And i know some of the complainents are not from Lancashire either. Typical . When the track was last run by champs NW it was a proper run event , The council had one of there young offender people there to show the kids safety and the proper way to use a bike , But NO the council did not want this , even J. Anderson put her two bobs worth in ? I have the letter. We strive to help the youngsters this day and age to get full enjoyment from life !!!! Typical MP full of IT !!! No wonder the kids take to the streets on there bikes as The council by-law passed was No motor bike shall be used on grass land , Councilor P. Deeth . I use to take my son there on his trials bike , But the good old council STOPED IT , No Bugger says anything about Preston Docks do they , Mind you they have not got the do gooders from out of town moaning 24-7 .

Tockholes isn't in a valley, it's on the side of a hill.

I live near the farm in question and i LOVE motorbikes of all types, motocross bikes included.
The occasional race bothers me not a jot.
Rigby sounds like a typical English middle-clarse NIMBY kn*b-end. I can just hear her saying " motorcyclists are SO working class - they shouldn't be allowed in OUR rural areas".
If we're going to ban sports because of the noise or disruptions, how about banning football at Ewood - when someone scores a goal ( usually the visiting team ) the roar of the crowd is very loud and most annoying. And the disruption to traffic when the spectators leave is terrible. I was trapped on the ALDI car-park for 20 minutes once as some officious and obnoxious little Hitler-ette of a WPC wouldn't let me drive off until all the football spectators had walked passed.
Leave motorcyclists alone - we've been more or less banned from old green roads by various anti-motorcycle groups - and let us enjoy our sport in peace.
You wouldn't think that only 50 yrs ago, we made motorcycles for the world in this country.
Just a thought - would councillor Rigby dare voice her opinions if Asians rode motocross bikes as much as they play cricket ?

I remember when the bikers used to use the area some years ago.
It was once per week for a few hours. The noise was unpleasant but this is a recreation they enjoy so we all have to give and take.
I would rather somebody put a stop to the constant dog barking and car alarms that almost permanently spoil my peace.
Besides what would people rather they were doing if they were bored and unfulfilled.
People have it too good in some areas, they don't want anyone to make a noise, don't want anyone spoiling their views.
NIMBYs is bang on.

Sorry, but there is nothing worse on a sunday afternoon than to hear some numpty tearing the land a new @sshole. It's really annoying, I work hard all week and when I'm off I don't want to hear this annoying buzzing in my ears. Go away, one mans music is another mans noise nuisance and it is really getting up my nose. If they ever make a silent motocross bike then thats okay, maybe an electric one, that would be just dandy, but until then STFU.

I imagine that there are far worse things that one could suffer on a Sunday afternoon than to be able to hear engines.

Alright then I'll put it another way. If I plugged my guitar in my 400 watt amp on a sunday and really leathered it, you know the full monty gutar hero floor sliding heavy metal mayhem, I should have been at glastonbury kind of performance, would you be happy?. No you'd be straight onto the environment agency and the council trying to get me to STFU. But I don't do it because I respect that what I like someone else might not, hence the saying, one mans music is another mans noise. So if I can STFU on a sunday afternoon to allow others to enjoy the peace, then so can these numptys as well, I would have no objections whatsoever if they used pushbikes, just like no-one objects when I play my acoustic.

KDG,

You need to put yourself on the endangered species list if you've no problem whatsoever with pushbikes. EVERYBODY hates us!

If you want to play your guitar at a fixed time once a week then that would be fine by me.
If I didn't like it i'd go out for a couple of hours.
People need to live and let live.

Firstly I would like to point out there are two types of events held at Tockholes which I am sure the councillor Jean Rigby has fully researched before making these comments ! One type of event is Motocross which does use machines which can be quite noisy and involves the fastest lap time around a track. The other type of bike sport held on this land is Trials which is a low speed and low noise sport that rewords slow speed balance over obstacles. The machines used in Trials are built to be fully road legal and have to pass road noise emissions test and some are used in national competitions and are taxed insured with reg plates when they enter events! So 30 of these machines would make the same noise as 30 cars leaving Tesco .There is also an archery club which uses the land at the same time and they have never complained about the trials bikes. Next point I would like to make is about the term Numptys using this land if anyone from the council knew anyone or bothered to find out anything about who rides trials on this land they would soon find out most are professional people from solicitors to aerospace engineers so are they numptys? Next the quote “It is being trashed by people who apparently don’t seem to give a monkeys.” This is such a weird comment when the motocross track is a set route and the marks left by the trials bikes get washed away in the rain and the grass grows back it’s not like the bikes are just randomly riding around Tockholes. Rant over now and if these people want everlasting peace there is another option!
