Darwen pensioner had pictures of children on his phone

A 73-YEAR-OLD high-risk sex offender has been made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order after police found photographs of children on his phone.

Blackburn magistrates heard there was also an image of him in a child’s bed although there was no child present.

James Joseph Corbett, of Ashton Road, Darwen, agreed to the order being made.

It prohibits him from having contact with any person under the age of 16, taking pictures of any person under the age of 16 or possessing any device capable of taking images unless he makes it available to a police officer for inspection when requested.

Chris Keogh, prosecuting, said Corbett had numerous previous offences of a sexual nature, the last in 1996 when he was convicted of 14 indecent assaults on a girl under the age of 14.

“He is classed as a high risk sex offender and is subject to visits by the police,” said Mr Keogh. T here was concern when on one of these visits they found pictures of children on his phone.

“Equally concerning was his evasive reaction when questioned and the fact there were no pictures of adults on the phone.”

At 73 years of age hes had enough time here draining societies resources and being a danger to children. No reason or excuse for keeping him alive.

He is living very near a park and childrens play area there is nothing stopping him watching children which is just as frightening as taking photos of them, the police have not got the resources to watch him 24/7 they should move him to a specialised unit he is 73 and still a danger I cant understand why he has not gone to prison as there are people in prison doing time for a lot less serious offences.

Serious question, how many registered sex offenders live in the Darwen area? Not interested in those who have touched someones bum or dropped their pants while drunk (both of which are daft) but those that are a risk to children. Anyone (councillor/police/h
eadteacher maybe?) know the answer or even range?

I think it's disgusting how many paedophiles live in Darwen. There are so many reports of them now, and that's only the ones that have been caught! What bugs me the most is that this country care more about money than child sex offences. If you rob a bank, you get years, a joint of ham I believe will get you six months. But if you abuse a child you get put on the sex offenders register and be on your merry way, with orders not to do it again! How pathetic. The children who are being abused are our future, and if they are being let down now, then god help us all when it's their turn to run the country.
