FIREFIGHTERS are reminding people of the importance of smoke alarms after a grill pan fire.

The incident happened in Ribble Avenue in Darwen at around 11.30am.

Nobody was injured in the fire and the resident managed to escape and wait for fire services to arrive after the smoke alarm sounded.

A fire service spokesman said: "The fire was still smouldering on arrival.

"Smoke alarms save lives.

"You are more than twice as likely to die in a fire at home if you haven’t got one.

"A smoke alarm is the easiest way to alert you to the danger of fire, giving you and your family precious time to escape."
