EXPENSIVE equipment was stolen in Darwen and Edgworth during two overnight burglaries, police said.

A pair of lawn mowers were stolen on Monday night after thieves forced open a shed on land to St James’ Church in Blackburn Road, Edgworth.

On the same night a break-in happened at a commercial unit in the Tower Business Park in Commercial Road and a roller-shutter door was forced open by thieves who then took a petrol generator.

A police spokesman said: “These are ‘heavyweight burglars’ who must have used substantial vehicles to remove property.

“Please be mindful that such burglaries often follow evening-time hostile reconnaissance by the offenders who may well be out cruising at dusk into the late evening."
