A DJ will be visiting a Darwen school this week to promote her debut book.

Radio presenter Gemma Cairney will be visiting Darwen Aldridge Community Academy on Wednesday to talk to year eight pupils about her book called ‘Open - a toolkit for how magic and messed up life can be’.

The 31-year-old is known for presenting The Surgery on BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday nights.

She will also be talking to the students about teenage issues they may be facing and recording a podcast with some of them about the subject after a book signing.

Learning resource centre manger Janet McCarthy said: “I expect the students will thoroughly enjoy her talk as we haven’t had a non-fiction writer come to DACA before to discuss issues they will all face during their teen years.”

Miss Cairney will be at the Sudell Road school between 9am and 10am.
