A 22-YEAR-OLD man who called police then refused to let them into his flat was seen brandishing a knife.
Blackburn magistrates heard Jack Saint shouted at officers that they would “get it” if they came through the door.
Officers burst the door open and when Saint refused to drop the knife a police dog was released which brought him to the ground and he was arrested.
Saint, of Clarence Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to affray.
He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Tracey Yates, prosecuting, said police were called to Clarence Street at 3.45 am. They could see Saint with the knife in his hand and at one stage he held it to his own throat.
After he had been arrested a female came out of the kitchen area and she was clearly “scared and shaken” by the incident.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said the incident was totally out of character for his client.
“His family are extremely concerned for him and believe he has had some kind of breakdown,” said Mr Taylor.
“He has caused a lot of fear and alarm, he understands that, but he is not someone who would ordinarily involve himself in this kind of behaviour. He knows he needs some help to address his mental health issues.”
