SEVEN people have been arrested after a man suffered serious face and head injuries after being attacked in Darwen.

Police were called at 3am on Saturday after a 27-year-old was seen covered in blood in Railway Street.

Detectives believe the 27-year-old man had been attacked in a “sustained assault” in the Newton Street area of the town some time between 2am and 3am. He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.

A 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, both from Darwen, arrested on suspicion of assault has been released on bail until November 11.

A 30-year-old man from Darwen arrested on suspicion of assault has been released on bail until December 23.

Two men, aged 23 and 31, both from Blackburn, were also arrested on suspicion of assault. They have been released on bail until November 15.

A 17-year-old boy, from Darwen, arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon, has been released on bail until December 5.

A 31-year-old woman from Darwen arrested on suspicion of assault remains in hospital, police said.
