Local councillors have also welcomed the developments that were approved by Blackburn with Darwen Council which included the building of an ancillary room, air and water facilities and alterations to the store.

Sudell councillor Roy Davies said that residents are looking forward to the new petrol station being built for convenience purposes.

He said: “This is a great move for the supermarket.I know that people find it easy to fill up their cars with petrol once they have done their shopping.

“I also like the fact that major supermarkets also offer a better deal on fuel, the majority of the big chains can sell cheap petrol and if there’s anything that can help save money it’s always welcomed.”

The supermarket is open until 10pm during the week and shoppers would be able to use the petrol station that is set to be built by the store’s carpark.

A spokesperson for J Sainsbury said: “We are continuing to developing our plans for a new petrol station but have no firm start on site date. We will update the community once we are in a position to do so.”
