At 10am two ambulances, a paramedic vehicle and several police vans and cars were at the scene and a man was being treated in the road.

The emergency services couldn’t give further details on the extent of his injuries but he was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

At the time of the crash, the traffic lights which normally control the crossroads were not in operation, police have confirmed.

A purple Suzuki GZX model could be seen on its side in the road and debris was scattered in Darwen Street.

Police said the motorcycle had been in collision with a red Mazda 2 Sport car at the crossroads, close to the Last Orders pub.

The Mazda could be seen in the middle of the junction and was being examined by police officers.

Damage to the front of the vehicle could be seen and its front registration plate has seemingly been knocked off by the impact.

Police vehicles blocked off the Darwen Street, Mill Lane and Jubilee Street approaches to the junction as the man was treated on the road.

Motorists were diverted to different routes before the road re-opened.

Inspector Ilyas Mohmed, of Blackburn Police, said: “We were alerted that there had been a collision between a motorbike and a car in Darwen Street.

“Our officers made sure the scene was isolated while paramedics treated the man and got him onto a stretcher.

The roads around the area were re-opened at around 10.30am after the ambulance carrying the injured man left and officers cleared debris and recovered the motorbike.
