She was then given a curfew order which she also breached.

Bannister, of Frances Street, Darwen, admitted failing to comply with both orders and was jailed for 12 weeks. Passing sentence the chairman said Bannister had disregarded both orders and it had been wilful and persistent.

The court heard Bannister was made subject to a community order for shoplifting in December.

The order included a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a six -month drug rehabilitation requirement. She admitted another shop theft in March and was made subject to a curfew order. Lynne Nolan, for the probation service, said Bannister had failed to attend appointments. Drug misuse was linked to Bannister’s criminal behaviour but she failed to comply with the drug rehabilitation requirement despite her supervising officer helping her with local appointments.

“Her record also shows a lot of non-compliance.”

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Bannister had started using drugs at an early age and this had been behind her offending.

“Because of her lifestyle she has been extremely damaged and it is difficult for her to motivate herself some days,” said Mr Taylor.
