FOUR drunken teenagers lifted a car park barrier until it broke ‘for a laugh’.

Blackburn magistrates heard Mark Edward Taylor and his friends had been drinking all night and were on their way to buy more booze.

Taylor, 18, of Ash Grove, Darwen, admitted causing £592 worth of damage to a car park barrier belonging to Trident Fire Systems.

He was ordered to spend 24 hours at an attendance centre, made subject to community supervision for 12 months and ordered to pay £592 compensation and £150 criminal court charge.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said CCTV showed three of the four men pushing the barrier up causing permanent damage.

When interviewed, Taylor said they were heading for Junction 4 to buy more booze when they came across the barrier and decided to push it up for a laugh.

He told the court: “We were just messing about.”
