Holmes, 45, of Birch Hall Avenue, Darwen, pleaded guilty to theft of cash and jewellery worth £3,365 belonging to Michael Gibbons. He was sent on bail to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced on October 12.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the offence was a serious breach of trust and some of the items stolen were of sentimental value.
“Mr Gibbons employed him to do some decorating while he was on holiday and allowed him to stay at the house. When he returned, not only had the decorating not been completed but property was missing.”
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Holmes had drug issues but was making strenuous efforts to sort his life out.
