FIREFIGHTER Lee Cameron is helping to put the spark back into cycling by opening a bike repair workshop in Darwen.

Cotton Town Bikes and Training on Bolton Road offers everything a dedicated repair workshop, proficincy courses and support for new and existing cyclists.

The initiative is the brainchild of Blackburn-based firefighter Mr Cameron who has a background in technical rescue instruction.

The married father-of-three, said: “The aim is to offer a range of services to help keep you and your bike moving.

“We have a professional workshop, training centre, guided rides and offer event support.”

Lee decided to open the shop after his wife got fed-up of him repairing bikes in the kitchen.

He said: “I asked my friend if I could use the shop in Darwen, he said yes and it has grown from there.

Blackburn with Darwen council’s ‘Connect’ project is supporting the initiative.

Borough regeneration boss Phil Riley said: “Encouraging more people to get out on their bikes is a key priority to reduce congestion on our roads whilst also helping people become more active.”
