A DARWEN primary school has revealed its extended plans to manage the transition for its pupils from year six to secondary school.

St Joseph's RC Primary School is working with St Bede's RC High School in Blackburn to extend the period so as to make the experience less stressful for the pupils.

A spokesman, writing on the school website, said: "Transition is something we take very seriously here at St. Joseph's.

"We understand how anxious children can become when moving up to a new class or onto high school.

"We have worked very hard over the last few years to ensure this is a seamless as it can possibly be for our children.

"Children leaving us to go to St Bede's will visit the school for three days in the summer term.

"This year on Wednesday, July 1, they will come to school as normal and they will be collected by staff from St Bede's and they will be brought back to us here at the end of the school day.

"Whilst there they will be issued with a temporary bus pass which they will use on Thursday and Friday to go straight to St Bede's on the school buses - a practice run for September.

"Children leaving us to go to any other high school will go straight to that school from Wednesday and meet their form tutors there."
