A WOMAN found unconscious in mysterious circumstances at a block of Darwen flats has died, police said.

Detectives said they have ‘no idea’ how Yolande Pendlebury ended up in a collapsed and unresponsive state in the communal hallway of the Kay Street building on Saturday, April 11.

The 40-year-old was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after being found at around 4pm, but officers say her condition deteriorated.

A post mortem examination to establish the cause of death will take place in due course.

Yolande was last been seen by a friend an hour before she was found, on the car park at Darwen Railway Station, but what happened next remains a mystery.

Police said she did not appear to have suffered any obvious injuries and are now appealing for anyone who may have seen her before she fell ill.

Detectives said they are keeping an ‘open mind’ about what may have happened and are trying to trace a man who may have been with her before the ambulance arrived.

He was described as white, aged between 20 and 30, around 5ft 8 ins tall, of medium build, with short brown hair. He was wearing a blue jacket and jeans.

DI Marie Haworth, of East CID, said: “We need the public’s help to piece together what happened to Yolande after she was left by her friend at 3pm.

“We are trying to find out how she became to be in that hall way and how did she come to be unconscious?

“If anyone saw Yolande during that time or has any information which could help us then I would urge them to contact the police.”

Yolande was white, with long brown hair, and of slim build.

She was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, brown knee-length boots and carrying a brown shoulder bag.
