A HEALTHCARE assistant who ill-treated a severely disabled man at an East Lancashire hospital has been jailed for three months.
Ashley Page, 27, swore and twisted the thumb and pinched the nose of his victim at the Priory Highbank Centre near Summerseat, Bolton Crown Court heard.
Page’s actions at a brain injuries unit, while the man was being prepared for taking a shower, were witnessed by colleague Jodie Lewis, who reported him.
His victim had severe disabilities following a car crash and could not care for himself, the court heard.
Page, of Palatine Drive, Bury, was convicted of three ill-treatment or neglect charges after a trial.
Jailing him, Judge Richard Gioserano said: “His family were entitled that he be treated with care, compassion and respect at all times.”
Patrick Williamson, defending, said that, at the time the offences were committed work had become pressured for Page.
The defendant was suspended and later sacked.
