POLICE have vowed to continue to clean up street level drug dealing in Pendle.

The message comes after a man was arrested for possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.

Sgt Shaun Pearson said his team, which covers Nelson, is investigating 11 public tip-offs into individuals or streets linked to drug-dealing.

The arrest relates to tip-offs and complaints about drug dealing in the Roberts Street area of the town.

As a result officers arrested a 28-year-old Nelson man on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine and amphetamines with intent to supply. He has been released on bail pending the results of tests into the suspected drugs seized.

Sgt Pearson said: “We will always act on information we receive, investigate, build up a picture and take proactive action.

“Drug dealing is completely unacceptable and is a blight on our communities. It is something we will always act strongly on to eradicate.

“Along with the investigations the dedicated drugs team is looking into, my neighbourhood officers are investigating 11 individuals and locations linked to drug dealing.

“We have arrested a 28-year-old local man on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine and amphetamine with intent to supply. He has been released on bail pending the results of forensic tests.

“That arrest was as a direct result of information from the public about suspicious activity in the Southfield area. Targeted patrols were increased in the area and an arrest has been made.

“I would encourage anybody who believes criminal activity is happening in their area to get in contact with the police immediately. Without that initial information we are unable to act on it.”

PC Dave Lees added: “On March 6 an officer from the Nelson neighbourhood policing team has been on foot patrol in the Southfield area after reports of drug dealing.

“One adult male was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply. He has been interviewed and enquiries are on going.

“We would like to encourage residents to call 101 if they believe drug dealing is taking place in their area. We can assure you that tackling drug crime is a priority and information will be acted upon.”
