Police in Chorley are advising people involved in equestrianism to keep their equipment locked up and to be wary of anyone offering equipment for sale.

The advice follows three incidents where equestrian equipment has been targeted by thieves.

The first incident occurred overnight between 6pm on June 20 and 10am on June 21 in Eccleston where chain saw, a petrol strimmer, mucking out forks, a horse whip and plant sprayer where stolen.

The second incident occurred overnight between 6pm on June 21 and 6.45am on June 22 in Charnock Richard where 21 leather saddles and six leather bridles were taken.

A third incident was also reported having also taken place overnight between June 21 in Mawdesley where an attempted burglary has occurred on a tack room.

Nothing was stolen in this incident.

Crime Prevention Officer at Chorley, Margaret Rushton said: "Horse saddles and tack can be popular targets for thieves because they are of such high value and they are often stored in relatively insecure and secluded premises."
