The construction of a health centre for Buckshaw is set to begin the next few weeks.

Work is set to start on Buckshaw Village Surgery imminently, bringing a range of medical services to the growing community.

The plans were approved last week by NHS North West to create a permanent site for the GP practice, which is currently temporarily located at The Lodge in Buckshaw Retirement Village.

The new building will house Dr Muttucumaru’s GP surgery, an NHS dental surgery and other health and social care services.

Once building work for the new surgery is complete it will be able to care for up to 10,000 patients.

Dr Nimal Muttucumaru said: “We have had really strong demand for our services as demonstrated by the number of patients registered with the practice so far.

“The opportunity to work from a state of the art surgery with the increased capacity is fantastic news.”

Lindsay Hoyle, MP for Chorley, said: “I am delighted that we now have approval for the surgery at Buckshaw.

“When the plans for a new residential and businesses development were first planned at Buckshaw we wanted the necessary infrastructure and services to match.

“With the opening of the railway station, a school and a community centre, the GP surgery is another major addition to the development of a unique village identity.”

Colette Crowther, NHS Central Lancashire’s senior operating officer, said: “We look forward to the completion of the permanent centre, which will provide even better access to health services for local people.”

Locally-based company, Eric Wright Construction have been selected to build the new centre.
