Youngsters from Chorley have certainly got ‘cred’ when it comes to street sports.

For Team Chorley took top slots in two contests at the North West Respect Street Games in Manchester – picking up first and second places in the tri-golf tournament, and winning the rugby league competition beating Oldham in the final.

The youngsters had been taking part in the street games activities held during half term at Albany Science College.

They spent four days honing their skills in rugby and tri-golf as well as futsal, handball, cricket, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee and basketball, before heading to the tournament in Manchester.

Coun John Walker, Chorley Council’s executive member for people, said: “I am delighted our own Chorley team did so well at the tournament in Manchester.

“Our sport and play development staff put on such a lot of activities for the youngsters, not just during school holidays, but at other times as well.

“It was good that so many youngsters took part in the half term activities, there was something for everyone.”

An action-packed, week-long programme was enjoyed by hundreds of youngsters.

As well as the street games, there were other sports, arts, crafts, computer games challenges at Albany Science College; ‘gym-tastic’ skills at Holy Cross High School; gym fun for child and mum at both Clayton Green Sports and Coppull Leisure Centres.

There was community football at Southlands High School and at Yarrow Valley Country Park, treasure hunting, bird box making and birds of prey.
