A MAN has died on a railway after being struck by a train near Coppull.
Officers said he died shortly after 5.20pm on Friday when he was in collision with the 12.26 Carlisle to Crewe service.
Police initially appealed for help to identify the man but, after receiving information from the public, are now satisfied they know who he is.
They are now in the process of contacting the man’s family.
Police said the man was 50 and from the Chorley area.
Officers from the British Transport Police attended the scene along with the Greater Manchester ambulance service.
BTP’s Detective Inspector Andrea Rainey said: “We are now in the process of tracing and informing the man’s family, prior to formal identification taking place.”
