A ROAD left in terrible condition over a number of years, with potholes as deep as 20cm this winter, is being resurfaced.

The works started on the A675 Bolton Road on the February 5 and is expected to take about ten days to complete. It has been well received by local residents and commuters alike.

County Cllr Andrew Snowden, who represents Hoghton with Wheelton, said “I am delighted that this major investment in the A675 is underway, it’s been needed for years.

“I’ve been up and down the road all winter reporting dangerous potholes and I know from many residents I’ve spoken to that they are delighted this highway from hell is being resurfaced.”

It follows Lancashire County Council increasing the Highways budget to over £50million for next year at its budget meeting on the 8th February, which marks a turn of the tide following a number of years of declining budgets.

Cllr Snowden added: “As we promised at the elections in May, we would reverse the cuts Labour made to Highway’s budgets whilst they were in control – it was fundamentally the wrong thing to do and the damage will take years to repair. You only have at the state of many other roads like the A6 Bolton Road heading to Adlington and both Great Greens Lane and Woodfield in Clayton, to see the long term damage slashing the budgets has done.

He added: “Whilst it’s fantastic that the A675 has now been done and other roads across Chorley are soon to be resurfaced, we can’t stop there. Whilst the next round of highways spending is pretty much finalised and going for final approval soon, based on Inspectors assessments and ranking of conditions across Lancashire, I will keep pushing for many roads across Chorley to get fully resurfaced and not just patched-up.”
