PLANS which would transform an area of Chorley close to the town’s railway and bus stations have been unveiled.

Last week, residents of Chorley had the opportunity to view the site proposals for Chorley’s new Youth Zone – named ‘Inspire’ – at a public exhibition.

Chorley Youth Zone has a proposed site – where The Arts Partnership and Leigh Arms currently stands – for the purpose-built facility.

It will cater for the town’s young people aged from eight to 19 and up to 25 for those with disabilities.

The Youth Zone at Railway Street will offer nearly 20 activities each night including football, boxing, arts, music, drama and employability training for 50p a visit.

Rob Carter, Deputy Chief Executive at OnSide said: “Here at OnSide Youth Zones we believe it’s crucial the public understand what a Youth Zone will mean for their area.

“We are excited about working in partnership to bring a Youth Zone to Chorley. It will give young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.”

The Youth Zone project has developed over the last few months with Andrew Turner – chairman of the Chorley Group, one of the largest volume Nissan dealers in Europe, appointed as its chairman.

Over 400 young people from across Chorley came up with the branding ‘Inspire – Do your thing’ following a consultation.

The Youth Zone is being created in partnership with Chorley Council, the Arts Partnership, Lancashire County Council and OnSide.
